The ultimate relaxation for me – Blogtober17

Nintendo switch and book - the ultimate relaxationIt’s not often I get the chance to put my feet up and relax. In fact to be honest I surround myself with a lot of work that needs doing so its hardy ever. When T is around we spend our evenings once Spike is in bed doing housework, chatting and I’m usually blogging. A few weeks ago though I had an evening to myself completely and I decided that relaxation was on the cards.

Pre-parent relaxation

I used to read to relax. I made a brew, curled up in my favourite spot and read until the night drew in. It was the ultimate relaxation. I would drop out of my book for an hour or so to play a game with T, or take a night off to visit friends. Occasionally I’d jaunt on down to London and go to a book event without a care in the world. I didn’t realise quite how relaxed I was!

Parenting

Then Spike came a long. And my relaxation time turned into time she was on me, because thats the only place she was found for the first 10 months of her life. After that it turned into time when the mound of washing had to be dealt with, or there was a form to fill in for nursery. Or the toys needed tidying away. I enjoy sitting down with a movie with her now she will just sit down. Other than that there aren’t enough hours in the day.

My ultimate night in

These days I can’t put my feet up with a good book as much. I can’t read at home very well at all! I’m not sure why but I just don’t seem to be able to concentrate like I once did. I can read for an hour or so then I have to stop. Instead I find myself picking up a controller and enjoying a great game for a few hours instead. And now the colder weather is rolling in I will be playing whilst sipping away on hot chocolate! I’m sure of it!
