Better Late Than Never – Our Summer Holiday 2021 Plans

It may be week 5 of the 6 week summer holidays, but a lack of childcare and annual leave means that our summer is only just beginning. We are going to make the most of it though! Spike has been at kids club for most of summer, with a day a week at home while we work. While we’re in the fortunate position to do that, its been pretty boring for her. So with our annual leave about to begin, we have some amazing days out planned. And I thought I’d share them with you! Summer Holidays on a Budget We were planning on potentially going away with T’s family…

Arnside Knott at Twixmas – a December day looking over the Bay

We spent a lot of time between Christmas and New Year out and about in nature. But lets face it – there wasn’t much else we could do was there? Those few days were some of one of the few recently where were weren’t in strict lockdown. Therefore, technically, we were able to travel slightly over the county lines to enjoy a walk. So we headed to Arnside Knott. Finding Arnside Knott Arnside Knott has been on my walking wishlist for some time. Its only about half an hour or so from our home so it was easy enough to get to. What wasn’t so easy was finding the route…

Getting out and about with the National Trust – The best National Trust sites in the North (in our opinion!)

As you know, we love to get outing nature and explore. One of the things I’ve realised in the last couple of years is just how many of the amazing places we love to go are looked after by the National Trust. A few years ago I naively thought that National Trust sites were just the big houses that you see in the countryside. But I’ve since realised that they look after some of my favourite open spaces too. So I thought I’d share some of our best National Trust sites from across the North of England in this post. Tarn Hows First on the list has to be Tarn…

Beautiful waterfalls, amazing ruins and stepping stones – our awesome day trip to Bolton Abbey

Last month was my birthday, and as always I wanted to celebrate with a special day with my family. A lot of things weren’t fully open near us, but thankfully I don’t mind driving that little bit further for special occasions. It turns out Bolton Abbey was the perfect place to visit. Beauty in the Yorkshire Dales Bolton Abbey is a ruined abbey in the Yorkshire dales. Its a massive estate with lots of walking trails, cafes and great areas for sitting and relaxing. The abbey and the stepping stones are what I wanted to go for but after we’d made the decision to go, I discovered the Valley of…

Playing tunes, finding sculptures and enjoying nature – a New Years walk in Grizedale Forest

I love a good walk, and a good forest walk is even better! For the last couple of years I have persuaded the brood to head out and clear out the cobwebs on New Years Day. This year the target location was Grizedale Forest.  Grizedale Forest  Grizedale Forest is to the west of Lake Windermere in the southern Lake District. We looked at going last year but because we were still living near Preston, it was a little far for a day out. Now just an hour or so away, we decided it was the perfect place for a New Year walk.  Getting to Grizedale  I’m not sure if we…

A trip into the hills – The Pendle Sculpture Trail

So this post has been a while in the making. Truthfully I’ve wanted to write it for ages but kept forgetting about it when I was sat down to write! However with #NationalWalkingMonth upon us I realised it was the perfect time to talk about amazing walks me, T and Spike have enjoyed.  The Pendle Sculpture Trail is high on the list. We took to this trail on New Years Day. I always love to go for a walk on New Years Day, it starts the year right and clears your head. This trail was no different. It was harder than expected but with such a mild day to enjoy,…
