Get to know me – the BlogOn icebreaker!

blogon-icebreaker-picture-of-me-readaraptor-hatchlingWith less than a week to go until I attend BlogOn for the second time, I thought I better join in with the BlogOn icebreaker! It’ll be my second time at BlogOn but my first time since becoming a parenting blogger and had Spike. I am really looking forward to it, and all the new faces I’m going to meet so let me know if you’re going to be there and I’ll make sure to say hi!

Share a recent picture of you:

I really struggled to find one that doesn’t have me pulling my hair out/with really bad roots/covered in snot, chocolate, etc. Spike is covered in chocolate in this one but it will have to do…

Describe yourself in three words:

Dinosaur, dinosaur, dinosaur…

How long have you been blogging and what made you start?

I’ve been blogging for 8 years this September, which is a stupidly long time! I started out blogging on tumblr about books because I wanted to share my opinion on them and I also wanted to make sure I was writing every day as I wanted to build a career in it…. that’s kinda where I’m still at but a lot has changed since then.

What was the inspiration behind your blog name?

When I started out my blog was “Raimy’s Ramblings” and I hated it. I was blogging about books and I love dinosaurs so I decided to play on the word velociraptor and make it bookish. That’s where Readaraptor came from, then naturally I wanted to link that to my parenting blog and dinosaur babies are called hatchlings so Readaraptor Hatchling was my new blog name!

Meeting so many amazing people. I have friends all over the world from my original blog, and I’ve met some of my favourite authors – in some cases multiple times. Its been amazing

Your most remembered thing from your childhood

This is hard… theres lots. Probably lots of caravan holidays with my cousins though. My parents ran a shop and they couldn’t take us on holiday a lot so many of the school holidays in my later years of primary school were spent on holiday with my grandparents and cousins in the Lake District at my grandparent’s caravan. I loved it there.

Something interesting you might not know about me is . . .

Im immensely independent and proud of what I’ve achieved. My parents left the country when I was 19, leaving me to go to uni on my own (with their support from a different country of course!). I hated it and I transferred out of that uni and into another, moving myself and sorting everything out on my own because I didn’t want them to be disappointed or worry about me. I told them once I’d sorted the transfer, found somewhere to live and started applying for part time jobs in my new city!

Which social media platform best describes your personality and why?

Im honestly not sure. I would love to say Instragram but its probably not true because it’s harder to be as chatty as I am on there… probably twitter 🙂

What is your happy song?

Jonny Got a Boom Boom by Imelda May…. It makes me wanna dance!

What is your favourite alcoholic drink

Ameretto and dandelion and burdock… don’t judge me til you’ve tried it.

What is your favourite cake?

Any I can eat…

What is your favourite takeaway dish?

Chips, cheese and mayonnaise

Where is your dream holiday destination and why?

I really, really want to go to Amsterdam. Or Disney World/Harry Potter World. Either of those are fine. But at the minute I can’t really afford either so back to this beach would do…

What would your superhero name be?

I’m not sure… something crap like Dino Girl probably…

If you had a magical power, would you want to have and why?

I’d have a mini pet pterodactyl that lives in my bag and when I need him, he’d grow big enough to fly me round the world and take me to wherever anyone needed saving….

What one weapon would help you survive a zombie apocalypse?

not a gun… anything other than a gun. I’d quite like Darryl’s crossbow from The Walking Dead… or Michonne’s sword

If you could send something into space, what would it be?

Honestly, and I know this is going to sound so bad at first, but…. my partner. He loves space and really wants to go there one day… he even asked if I’d be happy with him signing up for that Mission to Mars thing that Elon Musk is trying to do.  But I’d want him back.

What would you have on your gravestone?

She came, she read, she wondered…

You make headline news around the world in 2 years time… but for what reason?

I’d like to say its for something cool, but it would probably be for having a mental breakdown and having a video of me meowing like a cat and roaring like a dinosaur through to streets of Lancaster or Preston going viral or something.

If an EMP wiped out all mechanical forms of transport, how would you get to BlogOn?

Can I have that pet pterodactyl?
