This August was a strange one for us. We were meant to have a family week. We were expecting to go away for the first week of the month. But it didn’t happen. Instead we’ve been desperately trying to fit in our days out around work, kids club and other commitments. August is also my birthday month, which always means a fun day out in the sun (sunshine not always guaranteed.) And thankfully there was no exception to that this year.
Days out – Grizedale Forest, Loughrigg Tarn, Rydal Caves and Bolton Abbey
We had a couple of great days out in August and I loved each and every one. We went to Grizedale Forest in Cumbria on the first of the month which I spoke more about in this blog post. Then for my birthday we headed into Yorkshire and visited Bolton Abbey. I absolutely loved that place and I will be writing a whole post about it soon for you. We also went for a 7 mile walk in the lakes to Loughrigg Tarn and Rydal Caves. It was a fantastic experience! We love getting out in nature and these full days out are really awesome for resetting after a long week at work for me and T.
Recreating my childhood days out at Redcar Beach
During the last weekend, Bank Holiday weekend, I headed up north to stay with my mam for the night. I decided that August in the North East, or more precisely County Durham, was the perfect excuse to revisit my childhood beach trips to Redcar. I loved it there when I was a kind and as its the only place you can buy a Lemon Top, its law you do so when you are there… So me and Spike headed over to the East Coast for a change and enjoyed a mummy daughter day there. There were penguins, wind turbines, and of course a Lemon Top.
Lazy days at home
Spike is loving the fact that we have people on our estate she can play out with so we had a few days where we didn’t get up to much, just let her chill out with friends. There was a really cute moment when I looked out the front door to see her and a friend walking round the estate as Anna and Elsa. We also had a family move night which is something I want to incorporate into our family time going forward. Maybe once a month or every other month. Plus a quiet visit to her grandma’s with Pearl the Dog being harassed by Spike the entire time. The poor thing couldn’t get a break.
I have been so busy with working I’ve barely stopped to think. But I’ve jumped right into my hoop lessons and I’ve been trying to spend a bit more time one on one with Spike. I have also started to tone up a bit and because of that I’m finding clothes I actually like wearing and have been treating myself. When was the last time you bought clothes for yourself and not the kids? Ha!
Our September is looking busy. With a couple of days just me and Spike before she goes back to school on the 3rd, I’m hoping for more adventures. Then there will be back to school pics galore and a couple of days out with Daddy during the month. I’m also going to be taking my sister along for an exciting day out which I got for my birthday present – so you’ll want to come back next month for our September in pics post for sure!
