With Spike’s new love to all things Lego, and my adoration of dinosaurs, we knew the Brickburn Brickosaurs would make for a great day out!
Brickburn is a great event that is hosted by Blackburn Bid. First taking over the town in 2019, the Brickburn Paw Patrol figures were a hit with Spike and her friends, but this year the sculptures got bigger and better!
2021’s Brickburn event saw the creation of 15 brick dinosaurs dotted in different locations around the city. We visited on a Sunday, which unfortunately meant we didn’t physically see 3 of the dinosaurs on the trail, but we enjoyed it all the same!
Meeting our first dinosaur
We landed in Blackburn city centre and parked up next door to the Mall. Making our way in to pick up our trail map from the “Ask Me” point we spotted our first dino, Patricia the Pteradon. She was massive and Spike got super excited straight away! We then spotted the brilliant face in the hole board that the team had created. This board was created by the team to turn your child into a palaeontologist! Spike loved pretending to be a fossil hunter!
A Trip to the library
Next up we went to grab a bite to eat and sat in the square next to The Mall to eat. We noticed that we were close to the cultural quarter that houses the library, the theatre and more. Here you’ll find three more dinos. The library was shut as it was a Sunday but Logan the Lystrosaurus was visible through the window! Then Gray’s Outfitters, the local school wear shop, had a great display in their window which housed Dylan the Diplocaulus. Then we saw the scary Megalosaur!
Coffee stop and shop
Our next stops found us in a few of the shops in The Mall, including Rhode Island Coffee which was home to my favourite, Vigo the Velociraptor. He was huge, made up of over 46000 bricks and taking 4 builders, 260 plus hours! I loved it! There were a few trips into the shops, which included spotting Spike’s favourite, Molly the Mochlodon in Trespass. I really liked that the information posters about the three dinosaurs in the Market were placed upstairs when it was shut!
Taking in the rest of the city
We then headed to the cathedral and down to Hobkirks which had really gone all out on the display for their dino! We love the Cathedral and its beautiful grounds when the sun is shining, its a truly beautiful building!
The Experience Blackburn App and trail sheet
One our way round we filled out the trail map questions which you can submit at the “Ask Me” point to be entered into a prize draw to win £50 of high street vouchers. You can also download the Experience Blackburn app. On there you can scan the QR codes and reveal a special word from the info posters for each dinosaur. Submitting this can get you entered into another draw for £50 of high street vouchers. So not only do you get to enjoy the dinos and the city, you could be in with a chance to make £100 of vouchers!
The Brickburn Brickosaurs are on display until September 1st, I definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area!
Disclosure – We were invited to complete the Brickosaurs Trail for the purpose of this post.
